Mud and memory collided when a sewer trench bit eight metres into Duffsfarm. Broken pottery and ghost pits emerged, hinting that an entire lost village may still sleep beneath the modern surface.

An 8m wide trench was excavated as part of the Termonfeckin/Baltray Sewerage Scheme (Excavation Licence number 03E0273). A possible house site and a number of pits were uncovered. Finds included large quantities of prehistoric pottery sherds. The excavator suggested that this may possibly be part of a larger area of settlement.
