What is recorded here

This grey commemorative plaque records: The only surviving part of the Greyfriars Franciscan Friary once by the junction of Friars Walk and the High Street. Built in 1224, demolished as part of the dissolution in 1538, then re-erected here in the middle of the 19th century Recorded plaque organisation: Lewes Town Council.
The Greyfriars Franciscan Friary was a significant medieval religious site established in 1224 by Franciscan friars; its partial survival and later reconstruction reflect both the impact of the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII and the Victorian interest in preserving historical structures.

A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
