Killeen is the local name for Cellarstown East because an ancient church and graveyard once stood on a circular rise in the northern field. They have vanished without a visible trace, leaving behind only the name and the memory of a sacred place. The land may still remember the shape of what was lost, even when the stones no longer show it.

According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 267), 'Locally the townland of Cellarstown East is always called Killeen. It has received the latter name from a most ancient church [KK020-064001-] that stood here on a circular rise, resembling a moat [KK020-063----/KK020-064003-], in the northern extremity of a field called the “Killeen.” There is now no trace of the church, or of its graveyard [KK020-064002-]'. 'Killeen' is indicated on the 6-inch OS revision of 1900 in this townland associated with a house and farmyard. There precise location of the church, graveyard and enclosure are unknown.
