Graveslab in Unknown Townland

Graveslab

What is recorded here

Graveslab in Unknown Townland is a broken stone on the nave floor of St Audeon's medival parish church, bearing IHS in a circle and the faint arms of an interlaced cross. It may mark a person whose name has vanished, leaving only a shape for the living to read. Underfoot in County Dublin, it turns prayer into pressure and memory into a path others must walk.
On the nave floor of St Audeon's medival parish church (DU018-02075-) is a fragmentary slab of probable 17th century date. Carved on it is IHS in a circle with traces of the arms and feet of an interlaced cross (L 1.82m, Wth 0.75m). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 17 August 2012
