Graveslab in Portlecka

Graveslab in Portlecka lies recumbent on the gravelled floor of Ruan Church, its top half broken away but still showing a double-lined cross-shaft ending in a stepped base. The fragment measures seventy-five centimetres long and tapers from forty to thirty-five centimetres wide, thin enough at six centimetres deep to suggest deliberate carving rather than crude dumping. No inscription remains, yet the clean lines imply a maker who understood symmetry and patience. Whoever placed it there may have believed the church floor could hold what the sky refused to remember.
