What is recorded here
Graveslab in Portlecka stands in Ruan Church, County Clare, wearing a double-lined cross whose ringed head fills the entire top of the stone. It lies recumbent in gravel, head to the west, measuring 1.77m long and 0.7m deep. The shaft continues below the horizontal line, suggesting the maker wanted the crossing to reach further than the visible world allowed. No inscription remains, but the size and shape leave no doubt this was a marker for someone the community wished to remember without naming.
A large recumbent graveslab lying in gravel in Ruan Church (CL025-070002-). A tapering slab (L 1.77m; Wth at top 0.65m; Wth at base 0.49m; D 0.7m) with a double-lined incised cross ending in a flat base (the shaft continues below the horizontal line). Aligned E-W with the head to W. No sign of an inscription. As with similar crosses in the church the ringed head occupies the entire head of the slab. Apart from a small piece broken at the bottom this slab is intact.
