Break the old garden wall and a forgotten grave may fall into the light. The abbey kept this limestone fragment because even a broken cross still points toward the person it marked. What is missing is not nothing. It is the part the garden swallowed, waiting for hands steady enough to remember what the stone still holds.

In St. Francis' Abbey (KK019-026101-). A fragment of the upper portion of a limestone graveslab (L 0.49m; Wth 0.27m; D 0.12m). Only one side survives and it is straight. The graveslab is decorated with a raised fleur-de-lis cross, only one fleur-de-lis and part of a second survives. It is similar in style to another fragment (KK019-026526-) with a raised fleur-de-lis. This fragment is mentioned by Bradley (1980, 14, no. 51). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly

Medieval Christian graveslab, 13th–15th century. Its carved fleur-de-lys decoration indicates ecclesiastical or aristocratic association, reflecting the artistic and funerary traditions of the late medieval period in Ireland.
