Graveslab in Burgagery-Lands West

Graveslab

What is recorded here

Graveslab in Burgagery-Lands West is a graveslab in Burgagery-Lands West, County Tipperary, Ireland. The upright red sandstone slab stands 15 metres north-west of the north-east angle of St. Michael's chapel and 7 metres north of the north-west angle of the chapel's west annexe. It measures 0.65 metres long, 0.43 metres wide and 0.1 metre thick.
In St. Mary's graveyard (TS083-019020-), 15m NW of the NE angle of St. Michael's chapel and 7m N of the NW angle of the W annexe to this chapel, is an upright red sandstone graveslab. The slab (L 0.65m; Wth 0.43m; T 0.1m) is decorated with a raised three-armed cross with lozenge terminals. On either side of the cross-shaft there are initials, on the dexter side: I (or J) W and on the sinister side C C. The back of the slab has been very roughly dressed. The style of the lettering suggests a 17th-century date for this graveslab. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
