Graveslab in Ardfert

Graveslab

What is recorded here

Graveslab in Ardfert is one of nine limestone slabs of undetermined date lying in the church floor of the Franciscan friary. The stones have lost their writing or never had it, reducing the dead to smooth shapes beneath the feet of the living. They remind us that memory can fail even in a house built to keep it safe.
National Monument No. 358. According to the 'Urban Archaeology Survey of County Kerry' (Bradley, Halpin and King n.d., 49), this is one of 'nine limestone slabs of undetermined date' which lie on the ground in the floor of the church of the Franciscan friary (KE020-047----).
