Grave Yd.

A sub rectangular area defined by a masonry wall which encloses the remains of St. Doulagh's Church (DU015-009001-). It is raised on the N side. There are late medieval mouldings used as coping stones for the wall S of the church. There are also two more mouldings at the foot of the stone steps in the SW (DU015-009007-). Excavations in 1989 showed that the ground level around the church had been truncated and most of the burials removed. This activity was associated with extensive reconstruction works which took place during the 19th century (Swan, 1990, 18-19). The graveyard conatins a mixture of 18th, 19th and 20th century headstones (Fingal Historic Graveyards Project, 2008).
