What is recorded here
Grave Yd. is a small old graveyard on a shoulder above the Bonet River in County Leitrim, extending down the slope from Creevelea Abbey. It measures about twenty-five metres east-west and ten to twenty metres north-south, with many headstones still visible. The place belongs to the living and the dead alike, a quiet edge where human memory leans over water.
Situated on a shoulder overlooking the Bonet River, which is c. 150m to the NE. A small, old graveyard (dims c. 25m E-W; c. 10-20m N-S), where many of the headstones have been recorded (Crawford 1916c) extends N down the slope from the cloister of Creevelea Abbey (LE014-004001-), while archaeological testing (03E0166) for a new graveyard to the S produced no related material (Read 2006).
