What is recorded here
Grave Yd. is a roughly square graveyard off Strand Road, Portmarnock, where a low wall encloses the remains of a medieval church and gravemarkers from the 18th to 20th centuries, including those of the Jameson family. It sat hidden beneath overgrowth until clearance in 2010 revealed the plots, prompting families to mark them with kerbs and gravel. The place holds dead bodies, named ancestors and a church reduced to fragments, yet it still stands beside a living golf course as if death and play had agreed to share the same ground.
Situated off Strand Road, Portmarnock the roughly square graveyard is surrounded by the golf course. It comprises a raised area enclosed by a low wall and encloses the remains of a medieval church (DU015-007001-). The graveyard had been extremely overgown but underwent clearance in 2010. As a consequence of greater access many families formalised their grave plots with kerbs and gravel. Contains gravemarkers and a number of memorials from the 18th to the 20th century including those of the Jameson family.
