What is recorded here

Grave Yard stands at the southwest corner of a Cork crossroads, holding late 18th-century stones inside a low wall of rough limestone. It preserves the lost parish of Shandrum, whose church had already fallen into ruin by 1615 and may have vanished completely before 1694. The place still receives the dead, while the forgotten church lives only beneath its vaults and memory.

At SW corner of crossroads. Rectangular graveyard (60m E-W; 53m N-S) enclosed by low wall of uncoursed limestone rubble. In use; gravestones date from late 18th century; arched burial vault topped by chest tomb in NW quadrant; second arched vault in SW quadrant, second chest tomb in NE corner. Contained parish church of Shandrum which was in ruins in 1615 and had probably disappeared by 1694 (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 4, 205); Down Survey (1655-6) (1655-6) barony map shows a church in approximately this location.
