Grave Yard

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yard in County Kildare is a small stone-walled enclosure holding church ruins, three cross slabs and a font fragment, sitting beside Kilkea Castle and near Toberkevin holy well. It may have marked a pilgrimage route toward Glendalough, where ordinary people walked past sacred water and ancient stone before later graves filled the same ground. The place still works like a threshold: death, memory and journey compressed into one narrow valley.
Polygonal shaped graveyard (approx. dims. NNW-SSE 42m x 59m E-W) enclosed by post-1700 boundary wall with church ruins (KD037-017003-) in N quadrant. Kilkea Castle (KD037-017002-) located 55m to NW. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 14 September 2016
