Grangecon House

Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge to Grangecon House, built c.1875. The walls are finished in unpainted render with mouldings to the openings and granite quoins and base course. The slated gable-ended pitched roof has an overhang supported on timber brackets, plain bargeboards and a rendered chimneystack. The entrance sits within a gabled porch and consists of a panelled timber door with segmental-headed fanlight. The windows are also segmental-headed and have replacement timber casement frames. There is a window-like recess to the north elevation, and, to both the north and south elevations, there are small heraldic panels. Replacement metal rainwater goods. The gate lodge is situated at the southern gate of the Grangecon demesne with a relatively simple gate screen to the south side consisting of decorative cast-iron gates, and railings with square piers with moulded corbelling.

Whilst this later 19th-century gate lodge and gate screen are relatively simple in terms of design, they are largely intact and sit well within their semi-rural setting.
