Gordonstoun House stands in Moray as a layered survivor, its west wing perhaps preserving the original 15th century tower house inside a 1730 mansion that became a school in 1934. The 1940 fire took the mansard roof and never let it return, leaving the balustrade and missing chamber as a visible scar rather than a hidden wound. Rooms that once stored horses now hold libraries and classrooms, while memorials inside honour Kurt Hahn and pupils lost in later wars, turning a private country house into a place where young people still learn beside its ghosts.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Gordonstoun House as Country House (17th Century), School (20th Century), Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Gordonstoun House, originally a medieval tower house, was later expanded into a country house in the 17th century and later became the site of Gordonstoun School in the 20th century. It is remembered as the location where the British royal family, including Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was educated during World War II.
