Gordon Castle rose from the Bog o’ Gight in the 1470s as a fierce tower for George Gordon, 2nd Earl of Huntly, before becoming a vast Neoclassical palace where Jane, Duchess of Gordon, hosted the political and cultural life of the Highlands. The house stretched over 170 metres, dazzling visitors with its scale until wartime rot and later demolition stripped most of it away in 1954. Only the east wing and medieval tower still stand beside the restored Walled Garden, preserving the pride of a family that shaped northern Scotland for centuries.
