Gobban Saer's Grave

Three coffin-shaped graveslabs still mark the supposed resting place of Gobban Saer on a low island of dry land rising from Tipperary bogland, though the mound they once sat upon has vanished. Local tradition credits the clever carpenter with building old churches across Munster before eleven jealous workmates murdered him, while his widow killed them in revenge. One carved stone was later smashed with a chisel, yet the surviving tracery and a nearby healing stone keep the story alive at the edge of archaeology and folk belief.
