The graveyard (DG080-013009-) here at Glencolumbkille Church of Ireland (National Monument no. 139) (DG080-013004-) is said to occupy the site of an ancient ecclesiastical site founded by St. Colmcille (Lacy 1983, 289). It has been said (Herity 1971, 14) that some traces of a circular enclosure survives although no sign of these were noted during the survey (Lacy 1983, 289).

Glencolmcille Early Church Enclosure is a ringfort or rath associated with an early-medieval Christian site, likely dating to the 6th–10th centuries. It is linked to St. Colmcille (Columba), who is traditionally said to have founded an ecclesiastical settlement in the area, and the site now lies within the graveyard of Glencolumbkille Church of Ireland.
