Linked to St. Polloc, an 8th-century Irish monk and missionary, the site is traditionally associated with early Christian worship in the Glasgow area. Local tradition holds that St. Polloc founded a church here, and the surrounding area retains historical and ecclesiastical significance from the medieval period.
