Glamis Castle Grounds hold a lead seal matrix from the 16th Century, a small metallic witness buried beneath Angus soil. The castle tower still rises beside the grass, but the hidden matrix suggests human hands once shaped, marked or judged something worth remembering. Perhaps a keeper pressed wax, tied a ribbon or sealed a chamber before leaving the grounds to mark. The lead has waited in darkness ever since, patient as the castle itself.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Glamis Castle Grounds as Seal Matrix (lead)(16th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Glamis Castle was primarily built and extended by the Lyon family, later the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, beginning in the 14th century, with significant additions in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is historically important as the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and for its long association with Scottish nobility and royal lineage.
