Giants Grave

Four thousand years of Neolithic memory vanished beneath nineteenth-century railway works, leaving only a ghost oval on an 1838 map. The mound stretched twenty-seven metres through gentle Sligo lowland, large enough to hold dead ancestors and living prayers, yet the train cut through its heart before anyone recorded what it guarded. W. G. Wood-Martin watched the empty ground in the 1880s and confessed ignorance, proving that progress can erase meaning faster than memory can catch it.
