Gerald FitzGerald, 14th Earl of Desmond, was born around 1533 in County Dublin, Ireland. He became a major Irish leader, owned much of Munster, fought the Butlers at Affane in 1565, was detained in the Tower of London, and later led the Second Desmond Rebellion from 1579 until he was hunted down and killed in 1583. His life moved between Irish power, English suspicion and open rebellion, making him one of the most dangerous men of his time.
