Lissanoure Castle in County Antrim carries a blue plaque marking the birthplace of Viscount Macartney, who sailed east to become Ambassador Extraordinary to China. The ulster History Circle recorded the fact, but the real wonder is the distance between a boy born in Irish rain and a man standing before Chinese courts. Macartney bridged two worlds that rarely spoke, carrying Irish blood into rooms where dragons still flew on imperial banners.
