George Faulkner, born probably in 1703 somewhere in County Dublin, became Ireland's most formidable publisher by binding his name to Jonathan Swift. He lost a leg to gangrene in 1730, yet kept dragging controversial books through Dublin courts and London jails. Swift read every page of their combined works aloud to two hired men until the language became perfectly clear, turning raw ambition into a durable legacy.
