What is recorded here

Portobello in Dublin birthed the sharpest tongue Europe ever wielded. Shaw left that city in 1876 with empty pockets and a hungry mind, then rewrote British theatre until Pygmalion and Saint Joan became household names. He raged against war, church and common sense until age ninety-four, refusing every honour except the admiration of people who finally learned to think.

Why this person is known: Irish playwright, critic, and polemicist (1856–1950)
