General Thomas Cloney lived in County Kilkenny from 1774 to 1850, leading United Irish resistance before returning to lifelong labour in Ireland's cause. The Graiguenamanagh Historical Society erected his memorial in 1998, recognising that revolutionary fire and ordinary endurance belonged to the same man.
