St Mary's Chapel at Geddes is traditionally associated with St Mary of the Cots, a localised form of the Virgin Mary venerated in parts of southern Scotland. The site may have been a place of pilgrimage and healing, with customs such as well-dressing or water rituals linked to nearby holy wells often found in association with such chapels.
