Gavin Friday was born Fionán Martin Hanvey on 8 October 1959 in County Dublin, entering a conservative world that would soon witness his restless imagination reshape its boundaries. Raised in Finglas West, he absorbed the tension between local tradition and emerging rebellion before joining the surreal collective Lypton Village with Derek Rowen and Bono. That environment forged his stage identity and led him to co-found The Virgin Prunes in 1977, launching a career that crossed music, film and visual art.
