Gateway, c.1875, possibly incorporating fabric of earlier gateway, 1808, comprising pair of tooled cut-limestone piers with cut-stone plaque, cut-stone capping, and cast-iron double gates having foliate finials. Possibly reassembled on site, post-1948. Road fronted.

An appealing gateway reputed to have been salvaged from the Kilkenny County and City Gaol complex (redeveloped, pre-1871, incorporating fabric of earlier complex, 1808; demolished, 1948) in nearby Stephen Street. Exhibiting high quality stone masonry with particular emphasis on the tooled detailing the design aesthetic of the composition is further enhanced by early iron work incorporating pleasing foliate finials.
