Brownsea Castle gardens hold Grade II status, marking them as places worthy of protection rather than inviting everyone inside. That boundary creates a useful paradox: the land belongs to memory and law before it belongs to the visitor. To walk there uninvited would be to treat another person's heritage as a toy.
