Gallauns

The cross-inscribed pillar (KE088-015004-) is located at the NW corner of the leacht. It measures .37m x .33m at base and stands 2.9m high, tapering markedly towards its top. A poorly preserved Latin cross is carved on its badly weathered W face. Likely dating to the early medieval period, the cross-inscribed pillar at Gallauns, Aghatubrid may have served a Christian commemorative or territorial function. Its Latin cross suggests a ecclesiastical or monastic influence in the area.
