Gallaun stands in the Iveragh Peninsula, but the Cork entry describes a vanished mark on a south-facing slope above the River Bandon. That separation turns the name into a bridge between two different landscapes. One is a tall stone caught inside a later fort, the other is a hidden stone in pasture, remembered only through measurement and distance. Both suggest that people once believed a vertical mark could hold a place in time.
