What is recorded here

Gallaun is a 3.43 metre stone standing inside Cromwell's Fort on the Iveragh Peninsula, County Kerry. The upright predates the fort by millennia, yet the later enclosure swallowed it without hesitation. A leaning slab now braces its base, possibly added after Chatterton complained in 1839 that the stone shook easily. The forgers never asked permission from the older stone; they simply built around it.
