This standing stone, the tallest in the Iveragh Peninsula, is situated on a terrace on the NW slopes of Coomduff. Standing 4.4m high; its sides rise almost vertically for half its height, then gradually taper towards a pointed top. It is rectangular in plan at base, with dimensions of 1.04m x .42m; NE-SW. Probably dating to the Bronze Age, Gallaun – Doory may have functioned as a territorial marker or ceremonial monument. Its imposing height and location suggest it could have had astronomical, ritual, or social significance within the local prehistoric community.
