Situated in a slight hollow on a N-S ridge overlooking ground to the W with a nearby standing stone (TN025-019002) to the SW. A tall triangular-shaped limestone slab (H 1.05m; dims. 1.4m x 1.1m) orientated on an E-W axis with the top of the stone sloping from S to N. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
Likely dating to the Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance. The name "Gallán" could derive from a personal name or a term associated with a holy well or sacred site, suggesting possible later Christian or folk associations.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
