What is recorded here

Gallán stands one metre twenty-three high in West Cork pasture, tilted slightly across the grass like a finger pointing at the northern horizon. People may have set it there to mark a boundary, honour a dead person or simply watch the weather change, yet it still interrupts the ordinary field. The stone does not need a legend to feel alive because it has already survived every empire that forgot the shape of the sky.
