What is recorded here

Gallán stood eight feet high and four feet square on a NE-facing slope in County Cork, probably the same stone recorded near a ringfort. It disappeared around 1984, leaving behind a pasture field and a memory of vertical stone where horizontality now rules. What remains is the shape of its absence: a rectangle large enough to block sightlines, tall enough to command attention, gone enough to become legend.

Likely dating to the early medieval period, the stone may be associated with a local saint or ecclesiastical tradition, given the name "Gallán," which is of Christian origin. Its removal and lack of surviving carvings make its original use or symbolic meaning uncertain.
