Galláin

In pasture, on gentle W-facing slope. Depicted as pair of standing stones on 1842, 1903 and 1940 OS 6-inch maps. Group of sandstone boulders, three of which are set in upright position. Stone to SE (H 1.05m; 0.75m x 0.35m) irregular in plan; long axis NNE-SSW. Second stone to NNW (H 1m; 0.7m x 0.3m) roughly rectangular in plan; long axis E-W. Third stone stands immediately to W of second stone; long axis NNW-SSE. Stones to SE and NNW are well matched and splayed at angles to each other (at NE end 1.75m apart; at SW end 2.4m apart). O Nualláin (pers. comm.) suggested that the present three-stone arrangement could conceivably be interpreted as back of megalithic tomb.
