G Yd is a graveyard inside the west angle of town walls, holding the medieval parish church of St Mary. It occupies a considerable portion of the hill immediately over the town, with a freestanding stone for Susan Russel dated 1672 and most other headstones dating from 1710. The place is extensive enough to dominate the local horizon, marking death and memory across centuries rather than hiding them beneath pavement or forgetting.

Described by Hayman (1896, xii) as 'very extensive, occupying a considerable portion of the hill immediately over the town'. Hayman (ibid.) notes 'freestanding-stone' of Susan Russel dated 1672; otherwise headstones date from 1710 (O'Shea 1988, 69).
