What is recorded here

Ummeraboy East held a fulacht fia sixty yards north of a fort, a boiling kitchen where water raged over heated stones. People may have gathered there to cook meat, clean tools or share heat during long evenings. The exact spot has faded from memory, but the shape of the place remains clear enough to imagine steam rising into the Cork sky.

Bowman (1934, 509) recorded a fulacht fiadh 'in D. Jones's, c. 60yds. N. of fort' (possibly 12903). Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
