Fulacht fia in Levallinree

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Levallinree holds two possible fulacht fia and a rath, a small kitchen and watchtower built into damp Mayo pasture. The main mound measures seven by six metres, low enough that grass and forgetfulness have nearly erased the hands that heated its stones. Water, fire and food may have gathered there before written memory, while the rath watched from higher ground.
On a gentle W-facing slope in low-lying damp pasture. Reported as a possible fulacht fia (SMR file). This is a low roughly circular mound of grass-covered stone (diams. 7m N-S; 6m E-W; H 0.2-0.3m). A second possible fulacht fia (MA070-018002-) lies c. 30m to the E and a rath (MA070-019----) stands on higher ground c. 120m to the NE.  Date of visit: 9-1-2025 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Leo Morahan
