Fulacht fia in Letter (carbery East (w.d) By.)

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Spread of burnt material (c. 30m N-S; c. 20m E-W) visible in ploughed field on ridge overlooking the Argideen River valley. Well existed beside fulacht fiadh but is now covered up. Although spread is continuous over area mentioned above, the density of burnt material decreases and increases again going northwards, possibly indicating two separate fulachta fiadh. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
