What is recorded here

Knockognoe holds a low horse-shoe mound of black burnt soil and red stone, six by ten metres across, with an opening at the south-east. People may have heated water there for cooking, cleaning or ritual, then dropped the site behind them. The flames are gone, but the shape still points toward the heat they kept.

Fulacht fia described in 1985 by the 'Castleisland District Archaeological Survey' as a 'low horse-shoe shaped mound (dims. 6m x 10.4m; H 0.35m) of black burnt soil and burnt red stone with opening at SE' (SMR File). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 27 April 2022
