Fulacht fia in Killeens (cork By.)

In marshy ground, to E of stream; one of a group of three fulachta fiadha (CO074-00401-; CO074-00402-). Excavated in 1953 by O'Kelly (1954, 134-5); distinguishable prior to excavation by slight crescent-shaped mound (L 5m; H 0.25m) with opening to S. Excavation revealed an oval, unlined pit (L 1.85m; Wth 1.15m; D 0.2m) filled with the burnt material from the last cooking. According to the excavator 'a very temporary site, used perhaps five or six times in all'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
