Hot stones, water, steam and hunger: a fulacht fia worked the border of a Killeagh field until people stopped coming and the land swallowed the works. Burnt material still lies locked inside the boundary, while Monearmore Fort watches from twenty-five metres northeast. The area has kept its own heat, human and geological, long after the vessels and ropes disappeared.
