Fulacht fia in Coolmore (kerrycurrihy By.)

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Coolmore in County Cork once held a fulacht fia, now destroyed and never precisely located. Casey recorded the loss in 1983, preserving only the fact that people built a boiling pit there before forgetting or breaking it. The exact spot has vanished, but the intent remains clear: heat water, prepare food, gather around steam.
A 'destroyed' fulacht fia in the townland of Coolmore was recorded by Casey (1983, 274). It has not been precisely located. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
