Fulacht fia in Coolatoosane — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

Hot stones cracked and hissed beside the well in Coolatoosane, marking a place where people boiled water, cooked food or cleaned tools before road works and fieldbanks buried its true shape. The surviving mound is small, yet it preserves the violence of heat and the patience of repetition. To stand there is to imagine hands lifting stone from fire, pouring water onto it and waiting for steam to rise while the countryside held its breath.

This site is situated beside a well, but its shape has been completely distorted by the construction of steps leading down to the well and by a fieldbank running in a NW-SE direction. A small mound of burnt fire-shattered stones rises to a height of .15m and measures 3.28m NE-SW and 2.25m NW-SE. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’.
