Fulacht fia in Commeen

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

No visible monument remains in Commeen, though a vanished kitchen fire may have boiled water and cooked food beside the field. The lost fulacht fia is not a grand chamber or a named heroic hall. It is a missing domestic place, recorded only because someone remembered that the land once held a destructive or forgotten shape.
A 'destroyed' fulacht fia in the townland of Commeen was recorded by Casey (1983, 274). It has not been precisely located. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
