There is a dark, stone-flecked mound in waterlogged Kilkenny grass, sitting beside a fast-flowing ditch that likely fed a hidden wooden trough. People may have heated stones in fire beside it, then dropped them into water to boil food or cleanse cloth while mist climbed the steep slope. The ordinary field becomes a kitchen of steam and heat, where the boundary between human craft and raw nature blurred.

Towards the base of a steep E-facing slope of hill, in waterlogged terrain in rough grazing. It is 4m from an E-W running bank and ditch, the latter carries fast flowing water from the top of the hill and possibly incorporates a channelised stream. Good to extensive views N-E, otherwise limited by rising ground. Marked with an 'x' onto the SMR OS 6-inch working sheet and annotated 'ff' for fulacht fia. A flat-topped mound (dims. 9.7m N-S; 6.7m E-W; H 0.8m N and W; H 0.2m S) only clearly defined on E side, W side merges into the hill slope. There are quite a number of low mounds in this field but none as pronounced as this. Also the other mounds seem to be composed of a much lighter colour clay with no stones. This mound is composed of darker clay with a lot of small stones beneath the sod, possibly fire-cracked.
